Fortunately, there are an increasing number of public charging points available as well, with some for free and others at a cost.
However we anticipate many of the free charging points will not be available once we reach a tipping point where the roads become dominated by electric vehicles. That said, the concept of “FREE Wi-Fi” to encourage you to visit a specific café etc, could also extend to EV charging – lets see!

Public charging and fast charging stations are increasingly sourcing their power from bulk renewable energy systems (usually solar or wind farms) which tend to cost the driver far less than charging their vehicle from a household electricity tariff.
That’s why at GenCharge, we advise our clients to consider installing a rooftop solar system coupled with batteries to create an independent yet sustainable energy source for your own home or business – we call these “Nano Grids”.
One of the great things about electric vehicles is that they have a number of inherent qualities that make them highly efficient and increasingly economical. This includes regenerative breaking that recharges the battery pack while driving, or the near-zero consumption while “running idle”. All these result in a longer driving range that reduces the total cost of powering the vehicle.
So what this ultimately means for you is that by taking a more holistic approach with your EV charging, energy management and power storage, the overall cost of ownership will be driven downwards.
